Tayler had been following my work on Instagram for a while when she reached out. She was in the final weeks of her last pregnancy and wanted to slow time down—just a little. This session wasn’t about perfection. It was about soaking in the last season of life as a family of five before everything changed. That intention shaped every part of how I approached their session as a lifestyle family photographer in San Antonio.
One of Tayler’s biggest concerns was something I hear often from parents. She worried her youngest might be clingy and uncooperative. She worried it would be hard to get everyone looking at the camera at the same time. I gently reassured her that the way I photograph families doesn’t require perfection or performance. Even if everyone wasn’t cooperating all at once, we would still create something beautiful and meaningful.

My approach to family and maternity sessions is deeply documentary. I give light direction when it’s helpful, but my main goal is to capture families as they truly are. The personalities. The energy. The little quirks that make your family yours. That’s where the story lives.
On the day of the session, the Morlocks showed up full of excitement—even the kids. Tayler had talked with them beforehand and let them know this wouldn’t feel like a traditional photo session. They would be running, playing, being silly, and spending time together. And that’s exactly what we did.
We let the kids take the lead. For nearly an hour, they ran around, laughed, climbed, and wrapped themselves around their parents. There was movement. Noise. Joy. Real life unfolding in front of my lens. These are the moments I’m always watching for—the ones that feel honest and lived in.

Once we could tell the kids were starting to tire, we gave them a break. That’s when we shifted our focus to Tayler and her husband, Ryan. I always make space for photos of just mom and dad during family sessions. They are the foundation of the family. Their love is the reason this season exists. They deserve images that remind them of that connection, especially in the middle of busy, full, and often exhausting years of parenthood.

Those quiet moments between them felt grounding. A pause in the chaos. A reminder of who they are together, beyond the titles of mom and dad.
As a lifestyle family photographer in San Antonio, I care deeply about creating an experience that feels easeful for parents. Being a mom myself, I know how intimidating family photos can feel. You’re investing in something meaningful. Your kids are unpredictable. And there’s often pressure to make everything go “right.”
But the truth is, family sessions don’t have to be stiff, forced, or exhausting. Some of my favorite images come from moments of total chaos. A clingy child. A toddler who refuses to be put down. Kids who would rather run than pose. Those moments tell the real story. When your child clings to you, it shows that you are their safe place. Their comfort. Their home.
That’s what I want families to remember when they look back on these photos. Not whether everyone smiled at the same time—but how this season felt. The closeness. The laughter. The love that filled the space between them.

The Morlocks’ session was a beautiful reminder that when you let go of expectations and allow your family to simply be, the result is honest, emotional imagery that will only grow more meaningful with time.
If you’re in a season where life feels full, loud, and fleeting, this is your sign to document it. Whether you’re expecting, chasing toddlers, or soaking in the in-between, your family deserves to be photographed exactly as you are. If you’re looking for a lifestyle family photographer in San Antonio who values connection over perfection, I’d love to tell your story. You can reach out anytime to start planning a session that feels natural, meaningful, and true to you.
